Sekiwake
Sekiwake (関脇) is the third-highest rank in professional sumo, below ozeki and above komusubi. Along with komusubi, sekiwake is one of the two san'yaku ranks below ozeki (the term sanyaku refers to the top three non-yokozuna ranks collectively).
A Sekiwake normally needs at least eight wins to hold the rank. A sustained run of strong results, usually across three tournaments, can build a case for Ozeki promotion.
Sekiwake regularly face the highest-ranked opposition. There is no protected tenure at the rank: a losing record usually sends the wrestler back to Komusubi or Maegashira, while a winning record may keep the same position if no higher opening exists.
