Uwatenage: Overarm Throw
Uwatenage (上手投げ) is an overarm belt throw in which the attacking wrestler grips the opponent's mawashi from above (the uwate position) and pivots, using the grip and hip rotation to swing the opponent to the ground.
The uwate grip places the arm over the opponent's arm and onto the belt. It often gives the attacker useful leverage and control of the opponent's hips. The throw combines a pivot with a strong pull on the belt.
Not every uwatenage lifts an opponent into the air. Many are compact turns made from close contact, especially near the edge. The result depends on the direction of the belt grip and throw, not on how dramatic the fall looks.
