Monoii: Judges' Deliberation
Monoii (物言い) is the ringside judges' review of a close or possibly incorrect decision. Any of the five shimpan can call one by raising a hand immediately after the bout.
When a monoii is called, the five judges gather in the center of the ring. They may uphold the referee's decision, reverse it, or order a rematch (tori-naoshi) when the finish cannot be separated.
Video staff can provide additional information during the discussion. The shimpan still make the ruling: they may affirm the gunbai, reverse it, or order a rematch. The announcement after the conference explains which result was chosen.
