The divisional ceremony
During the Juryo and Makuuchi dohyo-iri, wrestlers enter wearing decorated ceremonial aprons called kesho-mawashi. They form a circle around the gyoji, are introduced to the crowd, and complete a short sequence of gestures before leaving the ring.
The Yokozuna ceremony
A Yokozuna performs a separate ring-entering ceremony with two attendants. One carries a sword, and the other accompanies the Yokozuna through the ritual movements. The Yokozuna wears a thick braided white rope called the tsuna, claps to attract the attention of the gods, raises the legs, and stamps the feet. The stomps symbolically drive harmful forces from the dohyo.
