Sekiwake
Sekiwake (関脇) is the third-highest rank in professional sumo, below ozeki and above komusubi. Along with komusubi, sekiwake is one of the two san'yaku ranks below ozeki (the term sanyaku refers to the top three non-yokozuna ranks collectively).
A sekiwake is expected to win at least eight bouts in a tournament to maintain their rank. Strong performance — typically double-digit wins — can earn promotion to ozeki consideration over several tournaments.
The rank carries significant prestige and fighters at this level regularly face yokozuna and ozeki in the latter days of a tournament. Some legendary wrestlers spent years at sekiwake before finally achieving ozeki or yokozuna promotions.
